Anna Paquin was born in Winnipeg and raised in Wellington. She began her acting career as Flora McGrath, the romantic drama film The Piano. Paquin is a Canadian and actress from New Zealand. Born in Winnipeg however, she was raised in Wellington She made her first acting appearance on screen in The Piano. In this romantic drama, she was eleven years of age, Paquin won her second Oscar for Best Actress. Canadian-born New Zealand actor who won the Academy Award as a youngster as Best Supporting Actress playing the enthusiastic and curious daughter of Holly Hunter's leading part on the film The Piano. After she responded to an open audition call and was selected for the part, she was cast as Flora McGrath, the daughter of a deaf Scottish piano player who moved into New Zealand in mid-19th-century to be married. It was her first role at the age of nine, and she had no acting experience. When she was a teenager her family left Canada to the United States. Paquin played a minor role as the title character when she was a child in Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (1996) as well as a lead part in the film Fly Away Home (1996). Paquin played Frankie Addams in a 1997 TV movie adaptation of Carson McCullers' novel The Member of the Wedding and also played a part in the role of Queen Spain in Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997). The role she played was for teenagers in Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (2000), A Walk on the Moon (2000). Also, she portrayed the teen groupie Polexia Aphrodisa on Almost Famous (2000).
